A concept to combine a gamma probe with ultrasound imaging for improved localization of sentinel lymph nodes: a feasibility study of the concept

Abstract This paper presents the proof-of-concept study of an adaptor allowing combination a gamma probe with ultrasound (US) imaging, intending to improve detectability sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs). The performance in US terms depth penetration and distance accuracy, scanning, sensitivity spatial resolution, was investigated. We observed that quality imaging through promising close normal imaging. However, fairly poor, necessitating improvement design for better scanning. shall provide basis development handheld gamma-US scanner interventional procedures small field-of-view (FOV) future.
